John A McEntire IV
Jay McEntire | Chairman of the Board

Jay McEntire is a seasoned executive with expertise in investment banking, energy, and agricultural technology. As a co-founder at Arva Intelligence, Jay drives strategic initiatives to advance regenerative agriculture and sustainable food systems, leveraging cutting-edge technology to optimize agricultural productivity and environmental impact. His career includes significant experience in investment banking, where he advised on high-stakes financial transactions and strategic growth initiatives. Notably, Jay held a pivotal role at Parker & Parsley, a prominent energy company, where he contributed to operational and financial strategies that enhanced efficiency and growth in the oil and gas sector.

Jay completed the Advanced Management Program / International Senior Management Program (AMP/ISMP)  from Harvard Business School and has a BSBA in Finance from the University of Arkansas

Aaron Martinsen, Chief Executive Officer at Utah Gas
Aaron Martinsen | Chief Executive Officer

Mr. Martinsen is a co-founder of Utah Gas Corp. and brings over 25 years of broad energy industry experience to UGC’s oil, natural gas and natural gas liquids (NGLs) production. Prior experience includes roles as an Executive Director with JP Morgan, where he led physical coal trading in North America. Prior to that, Mr. Martinsen was Director of Business Development for coal company Cline Resources/Foresight Energy. He also worked on the trading desk at Enron and American Electric Power. As CEO of UGC, Mr. Martinsen led the company’s growth strategy by acquiring assets from Encana Oil and Gas, Dominion Energy, Wexpro, Summit Midstream, Xcel Energy, and XTO Energy among others.

He serves on the Board of Directors for UGC and the West Slope Colorado Oil and Gas Association and is also an Advisory Board Member for the Colorado Oil and Gas Association and Western Energy Alliance.

Mr. Martinsen holds a BS in Petroleum Engineering with a Minor in Economics from the Colorado School of Mines.

Russ Knight, President and Chief Operating Officer at Utah Gas
Russ Knight | President and Chief Operating Officer

Mr. Knight, President and COO of UGC since March 2017, brings over 30 years of industry experience to UGC’s operations and growth strategy. In addition to owning and running Knight Well Service Inc. for nearly 20 years, he has also held leadership roles at Chevron U.S.A., Williams Companies, and WPX Energy. Most of his career was spent in the San Juan Basin, a massive natural gas field in the Four Corners area of the southwestern United States.

Mr. Knight is a long-time fixture in the communities where UGC operates with the skill and demeanor for building strong stakeholder relationships and community involvement, including board service and youth sports coaching in western Colorado.

Chris Laizure | VP of Accounting

Mr. Laizure joined UGC in 2021 as a Staff Accountant and held several roles within the accounting department before being promoted to VP of Accounting in 2025.  

Before UGC, he worked as a Financial Advisor at JP Morgan Chase and held various management roles at Darden Restaurants, where he led new restaurant openings and training initiatives.  

Mr. Laizure holds a BS in Kinesiology/Exercise Science from Fresno State University and an MBA with a Finance emphasis from Arizona State University.

Ms. Mestas joined UGC in 2021 to head up the company’s regulatory and compliance programs as Regulatory Manager. She draws on more than two decades of wide-ranging experience that began in 2004 as a Technical Professional at Halliburton, later advancing through roles in operations engineering, planning, and regulatory affairs at WPX Energy and QEP Energy.  At UGC, Ms. Mestas applies her industry knowledge and experience to ensure compliance with the complex environmental and permitting regulations that vary across Colorado, Utah, and other federal and local jurisdictions.   

She holds aBachelor of Science in Chemical Engineeringfrom theColorado School of Mines. 

Taryn Weiner, Air and Sustainability Manager at Utah Gas Corp
Taryn Weiner | Air and Sustainability Manager

Ms. Weiner joined Utah Gas Corp in 2023 as Manager of Air and Sustainability. A Senior Air Quality Engineer with over 20 years of experience, she specializes in air quality permitting and compliance across oil and gas, manufacturing, and consulting sectors with decades of proven performance in managing complex local, state and federal regulatory requirements.

Ms. Weiner was previously an Air Quality Supervisor at Crestone Peak Resources in Colorado, overseeing air compliance for 350 facilities, leading an eight-member team, and launching initiatives like the STEM program, Spill Prevention, Control and Countermeasure (SPCC) updates, and Crestone’s first Sustainability Report. She also worked at global infrastructure firm AECOM as well as at Noble Energy where she handled Title V Air Permit applications, large-scale compliance, and emissions calculations for up to 1,500 facilities.

She holds a B.S. in Chemical Engineering from Colorado State University as well as an Engineer in Training certification.

Barry Wilkinson, Vice President of Engineering at Utah Gas
Barry Wilkinson | Vice President of Engineering

Mr. Wilkinson’s 20+ years of oil and gas experience has primarily focused on engineering and management across upstream and midstream operations. At UGC, his expertise is applied to project execution, safety and operational excellence in gathering, compression, and processing, as well as to infrastructure development and regulatory compliance.  

Before UGC, he held engineering and leadership roles at Caerus Oil & Gas, Encana, and Bill Barrett Corporation, gaining broad expertise in production, facilities, and operations in the Uinta and Piceance basins where UGC currently operates. Mr. Wilkinson earned a BS in Petroleum Engineering from the Colorado School of Mines, graduating Magna Cum Laude. 

Trenton (TJ) Shelton, Production Engineer at Utah Gas
Trenton (TJ) Shelton | Production Engineer

Mr. Shelton joined UGC in 2022 to lead the company’s upstream production operations. He has implemented “operation by exception” strategies and managed UGC’s well intervention program to maximize safety, compliance and efficiency. His team strives to be at the forefront of applying Best Management Practices technologies to assure safety and professional development, to maintain cost efficiency and optimize production.

Mr. Shelton holds a BS in Petroleum Engineering and an MS in Engineering and Technology Management from Colorado School of Mines.
