Our History
Founder Aaron Martinsen, CEO, and fellow oil and gas veterans and investors started the company in 2013 with the purchase of the San Arroyo field in Utah and Badger Wash Gas plant in Colorado from Augustus Energy Partners.Â
Over time, Utah Gas Corp expanded its strategy by acquiring complementary local production, gathering, and processing assets. This evolution enabled the company to build a robust asset base across the Piceance Basin, Douglas Creek Arch, and Uinta Basin. Today, UGC operates an integrated system that includes production, gathering, plant processing, and a service company capable of delivering oil, natural gas, and natural gas liquids (NGLs) to multiple customer markets. The company continues to explore high-potential acquisition opportunities.

UGC acquires Andeavor Gathering’s Big Horse and Lower Horse Draw gathering systems, connecting UGC’s infrastructure within the Dragon Trail Field.

UGC Midstream acquires Xcel Energy Western Colorado Gathering Systems—Baxter Pass, Indian Valley, Lower Horse Draw, Hunter Canyon, and Garmesa—consolidating regional gathering systems into UGC infrastructure.

Utah Gas Corp forms UGC Services and purchases Hayes Petroleum Workover Rig and Crew. The purchase included Rio Mesa Production, adding 15 oil wells in the prolific Rangely Oil Field in northwest Colorado.

Utah Gas establishes its headquarters in Grand Junction, Colorado

UGC acquires XTO Roosevelt Utah Field in the Uinta Basin, with includes over 600 wells and some 100 miles of gathering across a 125,000 gross acre lease.

UGC forms a second business unit, UGC Midstream Ltd., to service approximately 1,250 miles of gas gathering processed through the Harley Dome gas processing plant. The pipeline and compression infrastructure serves the Rangely Injection NGL facility, Bonanza Yard and approximately 40 third-party gathering/processing customers.

Utah Gas acquires 30 operated wells and 275 non-operated wells from Dominion/Wexpro on the Douglas Creek Arch separating Utah’s Uinta and Colorado’s Piceance Basins.

Company renamed Utah Gas Corp; Aaron Martinsen is appointed as CEO and Russ Knight is hired as President

The company acquires 500 operated wells and roughly 180,000 gross acres from Encana Oil and Gas. The purchase includes the Dragon Trail Gas Plant and some 400 miles of gathering pipeline near Rangely, CO.

Founders capitalize on the initial Augustus Energy Partners acquisition to restructure the company, leverage its balance sheet and production growth to fund and implement its acquisition strategy.

SWEVCO-SABW, LLC is formed and acquires Augustus Energy Partners. The purchase includes 58 operated wells and 17 non-operated wells on 30,000 acres in the San Arroyo and Badger Wash federal units and the Badger Wash Gas Plant near Loma, Colorado.
